Located in Southern York County, Pennsylvania, Kim Finnigan offers private lessons in her home studio. Students of all ages and abilities are able to study violin, viola, and cello.
ABOUT KIM
Originally from Northern Virginia, Kim earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from West Virginia University and pursued graduate studies in Viola Pedagogy at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. She served as the Orchestra Director at Hylton High School in Prince William County, Virginia, where she oversaw an orchestra program with 150 students across three separate orchestras. In 2009 she left public education to raise her family while continuing her private lesson studio. Kim has maintained a private studio for over twenty years, teaching violin, viola, and cello, and continues to perform as a freelance violist. She currently holds the position of Assistant Director of the York Junior Symphony Orchestra, where she assists with rehearsals and directs the string ensemble.
Violin and Viola Lessons
Mrs. Finnigan offers lessons on violin and viola for all musical capabilities from the youngest learners to adults. All music lessons are taught in a private home setting or online. Lessons are tailored to meet each student's individual needs and goals. Thirty minute and sixty minute lessons are available.
Audition Preparation
Students in Mrs. Finnigan's studio develop essential audition skills to help them reach their musical goals. Many students participate in local youth and community orchestras and are regularly selected for local Honors Orchestras, PMEA District and Regional Orchestras
Performance Opportunities
All students that study with Mrs. Finnigan have monthly performance opportunities in multiple locations around York, PA.
Viola Ensemble
One unique opportunity Mrs. Finnigan is able to offer is the chance to play in an all viola ensemble. This ensemble is for advanced viola players, and will get to play trios, quartets and quintets written just for violists.
Children can start taking violin and viola lessons as early as 3 years old. It is important that teachers who offer lessons for young children are qualified and experienced teaching young dancers.
